Hi Chas, got to say that this would pretty much exclude claims from all hatch-backs & estates & many saloons.
It would actually exclude almost every vehicle manufactured since the 1990s. All hatchback / estates have folding seats which are a movable partition, and all saloons since that time have a boot latch inside the vehicle that opens the trunk. This is an electronic or manual device in the passenger area.
My thoughts are that this is simply a poorly worded paragraph & should relate to certain types of walk-in vans which have built in storage cupboards & not to passanger cars.
Nevertheless the wording is what it is & I wouldn't want to take out this insurance without WRITTEN confirmation as to exactly which type of vehicles it applies to
Problem is that I got caught out by VERY similar wording to this when I lost everything. And people feel it's weasel words because right up front, they tell you that they'll cover you under a specific condition in nice big bold print, but then hidden in the fine print, you find something like this and suddenly all the money you paid to get that cover that was advertised in big bold print is not worth anything. Of course people get emotional because they feel they've been tricked. Not everyone reads the fine print in as much detail as I do, and I only do because I've been screwed already.
I think that the law governing insurance needs to be simplified a lot . We need to get to a point where if a regular person would reasonably understand a statement to mean something or for a level of cover to provide what it does, then the insurance companies should be expected to honour that.
To charge money for unattended vehicle cover and then have wording that would exclude almost any car manufactured in the last 21 years seems dishonest at best to me.
