the physics says that you would like the sensor to be the same size as the object you are photographing- draw out the light rays- so that the paths are all parallel
(this is what happens with 1:1 macro equipment)
since this is not usually practical tradeoffs are made
the price of digital LF is currently absurd and the lenses are also not cheap
as fabrication etc improve there is hope for pro quality MF under $10k (the low end Hassy is getting close to this)
