One prime lens for the holidays on a 7d...

...what would you suggest? I assume L is viewed as "the best" but would a 50mm/1.4 suffice? This would be primarily for portraits and outdoor family shots--not landscape. Looking for the best lens to photograph my young child and family--lush bokeh is definitely what I'm after. I plan to go FF within a few years. Thanks all for your advice from this relative newbie to the 7d.
