Need your advice

I think I know the answer, but every time I think I do, well, you know.

I have an 18-inch printer, an iPF5100, that I have just turned on for the first time in probably six months. It still has the original ink cartridges in it that are getting pretty low. Thing is, given the price of the cartridges and the fact that I haven't used it very often at all, I am thinking of getting rid of it and getting something like a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II instead.

Am I right in assuming that the cost of maintenance and printing for the 5100 is much greater than it would be for the Mark II? I used to have an Epson 1280 that was very easy to use and maintain and, relatively speaking, much less costly to print from. I think.

Or are the regular, costly cartridges for the 5100 so large that it would make it comparatively practical to maintain and use?

Thanks in advance for your help

Garth
