Yes, the slots on the filter adapter will allow dust to get in between the lens and filter. A 40mm to 52mm step-up ring (Heavystar) would work to create a sealed environment. You will, like the fuji setup, have to buy a lens cap because the one supplied with the camera will no longer fit.

While I am a fan of B+W filters, but not so much a fan of UV filters, some might consider them sub par compared to a Hoya filter.
