100mm f2.8 L IS IQ for general work?

If you have used the 100mm f2.8 L IS for non-macro work, how do you rate the IQ?
I ask as I need IS for some shots and also better sharpness for everything (I currently use the 100mm f2 wide open or at f2.8). A minor drawback of the 100mm f2.8 L IS would be the (very slightly) limited aperture, but reports (e.g. DPR) suggest the 100mm f2.8 L IS is exceptionally sharp wide open and has really effective IS, both of which are very appealing. Could you share your experience of the IQ of the f2.8L IS at wide apertures, and if possible vs. the 100mm f2?
Of course, the 100mm f2.8 L IS would also be very useful for macro!
I posted something similar earlier but I hope this more clearly states what I’d really appreciate advice on (with apologies to those who replied to my earlier somewhat unclear post for their helpful replies).
Thanks
Phil
