Nikon D7000 & Tamron 90mm Macro Photo Samples
Dec 10, 2011

Hey guys,

First time posting on Dpreview (other than in the For Sale forum)

I recently sold my Nikon D300S and bought a Nikon D7000 and Tamron 90mm Macro lens. Thought it would be cool to get some feedback on some photos and to also share them in general, along with my thoughts after the photos

My initial thoughts on the Nikon D7000 is:

"WOW!"

I love the quality of images this camera produces. The Nikon D7000 has such noise free photos, especially at ISO 100. I'm not used to that, as I have been using a Nikon D300S for a couple years. I have always wanted a camera that could go down to ISO 100 without losing dynamic range.

Also, in my opinion, I like the colors I get from the Nikon D7000 right out of the box more than the Nikon D300S.

However, with only a week of use, I did notice the D300S being just SLIGHTLY faster/more accurate at autofocusing. The Nikon D7000 seems to "hunt" just a tad bit more, but only in really terrible lighting.

As for the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens, I love it. I think I'm addicted to macro. This lens made me addicted. It is unbelievably sharp, and has great colors and contrast.

Two things that stand out a bit, though, is chromatic aberrations and the autofocus is kind of slow and in some cases (bad light) un-usable.

But that's okay, because Lightroom 3 can correct the CA and I can correct the autofocus by simply switching to manual focus

Here is another review I posted on my website if anyone cares to check it out: http://www.timkainu.com/tamron-90mm-macro-review-nikon/

There are a few other photos there as well
