Um, how is lying about your performance to keep your highly-paid executive job "excusable"? If you messed up, the honorable thing to do is to admit your mistakes and take responsibility for them.

And hiding investment losses does come at the expense of the stockholders. It's quite simply lying to them about the value of their investment; telling them that they have $10,000 when in reality they only have $7,500.
