Which prime lens should be my first?

I just bought a new Canon T2i with the kit lens and would like to purchase either the 35mm or 50mm 1.8 Canon lens (both rated well and inexpensive). I primarily shoot landscapes, city scenes, some close ups of flowers and insects, and appreciate bokeh when used appropriately.

Suggestions as to which lens might be better for me would be greatly appreciated.
