Question about lenses: Pentax 55-300mm and Panasonic 100-300mm
Dec 3, 2011

I have a Panasonic G3 and Panasonic 100-300 lens that has provided excellent quality for different uses outside, such as wildlife and landscape photographs. With the 2x factor for the m4/3 format, the 300mm focal length is equivalent to 600mm in 35mm FF.

I am curious as to whether a Pentax K-5 with the Pentax 55-300 lens will provide as high quality photographs for an equivalent focal length of 600mm. The 300mm in the APS-C format produces a 450mm in 35mm FF equivalence, and so I am asking whether the quality would be generally equivalent after cropping to achieve (approximately) the same 600mm 35mm frame.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has used both combinations -- or at least both lenses with generally similar cameras -- to make a comparison.
