Hello aaronius -

Low-light: Although J1/V1 have a bigger sensor than X10, the X10 lens is much brighter. Also, although I don't have first-hand experience, the reviews seem to say that J1/V1 focusing slows down a lot in low-light. so it may be comparable (or worse?) than X10 for low-light focusing.

Responsiveness: J1/V1 certainly seem to be faster in good light, though the ephotozine reviews don't bear this out. See above re: low-light focusing.

X10 problem: see the dpreview fujifilm talk forum about the "white blob/disk/dot/orb syndrome." Appears to be a severe problem with blooming. Fuji is apparently looking into this, but no solution yet.

Learning photography: The X10 offers much easier manual control, which many people feel is central to learning photography.

Cuteness: J1 wins by a landslide.
