SX40 IS Surprise Discovery
Nov 29, 2011

While putting my SX40 in and out of a close fitting camera bag, trying to fit it properly, I discovered a magnetic field at the hinge of the articulated LCD. I found this when I sat the camera down on a plastic and steel wire tye. The tye stuck to the camera. At first I thought it was static electricity, but the tye would only stick to the hinge area. I tried to get the tye to stick to two other Canon cameras with LCDs, but to no avail. Not even any attemp to stick after moving the camera in and out of the close fitting bag repeatedly. The morning after revealed the same magnetism on the SX40 as the night before. Removed the battery and the results were the same. My fear of a static charge was that dust, etc would be attracted to inner camera parts.

I wonder if all SX40s are magnetic? What gives? Thanks All
