X10 lens compared to kitlens of a DSLR
Nov 29, 2011

I have read in the X10 preview:

"Its bright lens also means that the X10 can give more-blurred backgrounds than a DSLR or large-sensor mirrorless camera with a typical kit zoom (i.e. 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 or 14-42mm F3.5-5.6), which is useful for subject isolation when shooting portraits."

The X10 features a 7.1-28.4mm / f2.0-f2.8 lens on a 2/3inch sensor (11.00 x 8.80mm)

A Nikon D5100 features a DX sensor (28.4 x 23.7mm sensor) with a kitlens starting at 18mm / f3.5 ending at 55mm / f5.6

Does a 7.1mm@f2.0 really rival a 18mm@f3.5 in terms of depth of field?
