pixel density and resolution aren't the same thing. the ipad and iphone's PPI is high, but overall resolution, and therefore total detail displayed, is not as high as on a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution laptop screen.
subjective quality can be higher with higher PPI because the image appears sharper, but i repeat that it is NOT higher resolution.
