The Orbs do exist. I shot the photo below today at both 12mp and 6mp at ISO 100. Specular highlights are rendered as white blobs.

My guess is that it related to in-camera processing or it is a characteristic of the sensor in the X10 or a combination of both.

Before anyone piles on me regarding this issue understand that I never said the issue did not exist. I stated that I had not experienced it. Very little of what I shoot involves such specular highlights, as several have pointed out, and therefore I have not seen this aberration in the shots I have taken with the X10 until today.

My entire purpose today was to force it to appear and it was easy to do. Not a cloud in the sky, bright sunshine and a car parked right outside my door with specular highlights just waiting for me to photograph them.

Yes, absolutely, it is a problem that needs to be addressed by Fuji. Whether a firmware tweak will handle it remains to be seen. If it is a characteristic of the sensor itself an easy fix may not exist.

Yes, it is unacceptable. Will I return the X10, no. It does a lot of things right and I will wait for Fuji to address the orb issue. If it can't be fixed then I will certainly consider returning it.

Now, if anyone here thinks I owe them an apology for anything I posted regarding this issue, real or perceived, you have my apology.

I have already posted my findings and this shot on my website in the X10 section at http://www.boxedlight.com/x10

I hope Fuji can fix this issue as it is a real wart on what otherwise is a great little camera.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.
