Thanks to all who have responded -- I come away with a few truths: an interesting image is OK no matter how it was captured; own up to the conditions under which the image was taken; and keep shooting. I am fortunate in having a job that takes me to interesting places around the world. Last week it was Cape Town and I took bird pictures in cages and open environments. I thought you might enjoy four images taken in public gardens in Cape Town (Company and Kristenbosch) of two very common birds for that part of the world: the Egyptian goose and the Guinea fowl. The birds were easy to find and fun to capture. In three of the images I got down to the level of the birds (1,3,and 4). In image 2 I hover above, but I like the colors, shade, light, and the overall composition.
