I bought the Sigma 50/1.4 a couple months ago and have been happy with it (it replaced the Canon 50/1.8.

The first copy front focused quite a bit and was erratic so I exchanged it. The second focuses accurately (though I have to dial in some micro-adjust on my 7d for front focusing as well)

It's built very well, and decently sharp in the centre at 1.4, VERY sharp from 1.8 onwards. Corners are as you would expect wide open, a little soft but sharpen up from f2 (decent and getting better) onwards (who needs sharp corners at f/1.4? )

Bokeh is soft and pleasing, nice round highlights, (not like the jagged busy bokeh of the plastic fantastic... haha)

CA is there at high contrast edges near the edges of the frame, but easily fixed in post.

I researched the Canon 1.4 as well but based on many reviews, decided on the Sigma. I've been happy with it.
