Sigma 2X question

I have a 50D with a few lenses and am seriously considering adding the Sigma 2X APO teleconverter. I know I will lose 2 full f-stops, but wanted to know whether I will notice a degradation in the image quality compared to the same lens without the converter.

I've never used a teleconverter before so I'm not familiar with the results achieved when using one.
