Traveling to Paris, need a wider angle lens?

Hi everyone,
I will be living in Paris for about 6 months starting in February, and I will definitely be taking lots of photos. I am currently using the 50D with the kit 28-135 lens and also have the 50mm 1.8 as well.
That said, I am debating if I should get a wider angle zoom, like the 17-40/17-55/15-85, a zoom lens that would translate into a wider field of view. I prefer zoom lenses just based on versatility, and would rather not get a prime.
28mm on a crop translates to roughly 45mm. Would that be too restricting in a city like Paris? I will be photographing the usual touristy sites, but also will be focusing on architecture, street/candid photos, and anything interesting I run into on the street. I will also travel to other parts of Europe while I'm over there, such as the UK, Spain, Germany, Italy.
Thanks!
