If you're tripod/monopod mounting your camera and lens, then attach to whichever is the heavier item. If the camera weighs more than the lens, attach the 'pod to the camera. If the lens weighs more than the camera, attach to the lens. This will minimise the strain on the camera's lens mount. It will also mean that the 'pod is more likely to be closer to your rig's centre of gravity, which minimises the strain on the 'pod as well.

Having said that, lens mounts are more robust that most people expect, so not following the above is unlikely to damage your camera...
