Image wise the E-PL1 is on par with the others…
AF from E-PL2 and up is faster, more agile and precise.

The LCD also got better from E-PL2 and up. Likewise more fun art filters to play with.

About ergonomics I prefer E-PX and E-PL2. The grip feels more secure and better with these.

The IS is about the same. Some say that the E-P2 and E-P3 has better IS, but I don’t know.

If you mostly shoot ORF's (raw) my guess is that you will not be able to see any differences in final prints what IQ concerns to any other of the Pens…

My conclusion: The E-PL1 gives most bang for the bucks!
