I think you are comparing apples to oranges. The HX9v is much smaller, lighter and has a nice long zoom. The other camera has a 1/1.8 sensor which would definitely give great pix with the zeiss lens. But the HX9v has A LOT of newer technology albiet with the 1/2.33 sensor.

If you are just taking pictures on vacation (this is not a preo-slr camera) this camera produces great results for which it was designed. This camera is designed to be small and lighter and to give quality photos.
