5D Mark II long exposure noise

I am getting high levels of noise on my Canon 5D Mark II when I take long exposures in the dark - see images at

https://picasaweb.google.com/mark.n.berman/Canon5DPicsLongDark?authkey=Gv1sRgCO7FpO_kmtGNBA

(these large original JPEG files have to be manually downloaded. ISO and time settings are indicated in the file names).

I would appreciate advice on

1) whether this level of noise is normal for the 5D Mark II

2) whether long exposures are bad for the sensor due to overheating, and if so, what are the recommended time limits (depending on ISO?)

Thanks
Mark
