For my daughter, what is a good into DSLR with a nice kit lens zoom?

Thanks, I have no idea why she wants such a big camera but she says she does and graduation from college is coming soon...not that I have not spent enough over the past 4 years of study with 2 semesters of study abroad, but what the heck. I did look over at the Nikon D7000 and the Pentax K5, a bit pricey, or is that the deal? and what kit lens to insure quality?
