Then how about this iso1600 RAW comparison between SX30, SX40 and G12 (CCD, CMOS and CCD) :


Seems to me that the small 1/2.3" BSI-CMOS sensor in SX40 is doing a pretty good job, despite having 2mp more than the larger 1/1.7" CCD sensor in the G12.
