What's the point of 1/16,000 shutter, with only 1/60 x sync

I recently stumbled upon the Nikon J1 at the store, and it offers a shutter speed of 1/16,000, yet only 1/60 x sync. Now I'm all about pushing the limits, but how would anyone ever use this shutter speed unless they are shooting in blindingly bright light? Obviously you can't use the flash, with such a slow sync speed. And since the camera would have shutter lag, you couldn't really use it for any sort of photography that would benefit from that high of a shutter speed. So how would anyone ever have a use for this?
