Filters: any recommandations ?
Nov 20, 2011

Hello everyone,

I am new to digital photography (just got my first DSLR :D) and I want to buy a UV and a polarization filter for my lens (Nikkor 16-85 mm VR, 67 mm diameter).

First I looked at the B&W's because of the quality of the build, but I feel they're a bit too pricey for me at the moment.

So instead I was thinking of going for some nice Hoya multi coated filters like these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-67mm-Super-Pro-1-Filter/dp/B0000AI1JU/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1321725734&sr=1-6

Or maybe just a ND filter from Nikon would suffice ?

Now, what I'm a bit puzzled about is the fact that for some filters I can buy over the internet they mention that they are "screw in" filters, but on these they don't. Would I need a special support of some sort (like for the Cokin ones) to fix them to my lens or would I also just screw them in, but for some reason they didn't mention this in the name of the product ?

As for the polarization filter, I don't quite know which to choose. The Hoya polarization filters don't seem to perform as well as their UV counterparts so I was thinking of getting perhaps a Marumi filter:

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
