SD15 Blown Highlights + Margenta Cast. Where are the lost highlight details in SPPxx
Nov 19, 2011

Hello SD15 and SIGMA users,

owing a SD15 since March 2011 i had to realize that under extreme dynamic light conditions my SD15 tends to blow out highlights and sometimes even adds a margenta cast in those blown outhightlights.
My SD14 is more tolerant in those conditions and.did not show margenta cast. .

I´m using ISO 50 -0,7EV if there´s enough light, on both cameras.. CWB both SD15 neutral mode.

Even when using ISO 100 highlights can blow out and i can still see a slight margenta in these areas.

Today i played a little bit with SPP4.2.2 + SPP5.1 with two of this problematic files shaddows with blue sky and cloulds, converting them out of SPPxx into jpg´s, and had a look in Fastone Image viewer v. 4.2. These pictures don´t have a margenta color cast as some of you know.

I tried the exposure and contrast slider to recover those blown hightlight, didn´t work!

Now i used the gamma slider, pulling it to the left in one picture even to 0,1, the other to 0,23.

I nearly could recover all those blown clouds, naturally when doing this those.shaddow areas become very dark.

My conclusion, it´s not a camera problem, nore sensor problem. It´s a software problem, maybe this extreme dynamic range is also a problem for monitors and printers.

I posted those 2 files in raw/jpg mode, SPPxx/jpg converted and Fastone gamma corrected.
Play with the converted as you like.

If this theme has been posted regarding this result before please let me know.
