I think the biggest problem with his landscapes is that they were underexposed. He explains he had to underexpose by 1 to 2 stops to prevent the highlights from being blown. I've never shot Oly, so I can't comment on whether this was really the case, but it certainly isn't the case on my GH2 when shooting raw. There's plenty of highlight detail at the base exposure (even though the LCD often shows blown highlights--it seems calibrated for jpeg output).
