I agree it's not the best way to serve your customers, but Sigma certainly is no exception with this policy.

I live in The Netherlands. If I buy Nikon stuff which is distributed by Nikon Europe and it's national branches anywhere in the EU, that gear is covered by Nikon's international warranty throughout the entire EU. However, if I buy the same gear originally coming from (for instance) Nikon USA, that is considered grey market import even if I buy it in The Netherlands from an official Nikon-dealer . If I have any warranty issues with that gear, I will have to turn to Nikon USA, not Nikon Europe.

Same with Canon, same with Apple, same with BMW and almost any other manufacturer.
