24-70 Tight Zoom Ring Repair. Covered under warranty?

Hi!

I'm in the early stages of dealing with Nikon on a tight zoom ring on my 24-70 and was wondering: Was the repair covered for you under warranty?

Initially, the ring was only snug, but it has gotten progressively tighter. I'm concerned that eventually, I might not be able to move it without quite a bit of force.

A Google search of "24-70 Stiff Zoom Ring" comes up with about 120,000 results!
This forum is full of threads about this.

Should I expect this to be covered under warranty ?

Would be interested in hearing the experience of others.
