True 1080 60p Blu-ray discs possible with FZ150 AVCHD2?
Nov 3, 2011

Panasonic began to offer camcorders with 1080 60p video in early 2010. Until recently, all the HD Writer software required conversion to 60i to create Blu-ray discs compatible with existing players. This constraint also applied (or still applies) to the short list of other editing products that support AVCHD 2. Magix, Avid, and others rolled out products that import AVCHD 2, or export 1080 60p files (recoded, lower bitrate, though), but must convert to 1080 60i or 720 60p for disc.

The PMB 5.8 software that accompanies the latest Sony products claims to permit one to burn discs in real 1080 60p. However, it appears these discs may be compatible only with some very new Blu-ray players, and (despite rumors) it's not easy to find any announcements of AVCHD2 firmware to equip older players to support 1080 60p discs.

What's the latest word regarding Panasonic software support for AVCHD 2? I'll presume that software accompanying the FZ150 will import the 1080 60p file and burn discs, but are they (as in the case of TM700 HD Writer software) either 60i or lower resolution?

Any AVCHD 2 BD players sold by Panasonic outside of Japan? Any AVCHD 2 firmware available for older BD players? Precisely where?

Will Vegas treat 1080 60p video from Panasonic devices (TM 700 or FX150) on par with AVCHD from Sony devices? Is the latest AVCHD 2 different in any way, shape or form from the 1080 60p shot with the 2010-vintage TM700?
