Field of view - same or not same for DX and FX?
Nov 1, 2011

Here is what has been bothering me recently. I love wide angle. Currently have a D300s (DX) and 10-24 lens.

Theoretically, 10mm on DX gives me the same angle of view as a 15mm or 16mm lens on FX.

But I believe this is not exactly true, because a 16mm lens has much lower distortion (optical distortion) than a 10mm. So, I believe that photographing the same subject with a 10mm DX camera and a 16mm FX camera, the subject fills the same part of the image, but will be much more distorted.

Is this true or false?

If yes, FX is much better for indoor real estate photography and wide angle shots of people due to lower distortion.
