I have and use both lenses with my A55. They each have their strengths. The beercan is fairly small and light, so it's easy to grab and throw on the body when you want the reach, and want to handhold the shot. My copy is very sharp, so that makes it an easy decision to use it when I want. It does have purple fringing problems (easy enough to correct in post, since I only shoot RAW).

The Tamron is very sharp and pairs well with a good 2x teleconverter (I use the combination to photograph birds and other wildlife). By itself, it's a quick performer that should be good for sports photography, if just a tad slower than a good ultrasonic focusing lens.

I use 'em both, as they each have their place.
