Is it me, or is the HLD-4 substandard?

I was just outside taking a few snow shots with the E-3 and 50f2 (I still can't believe it's snowing in PA in October), and I found myself being very frustrated by the quality of the hld4 compared to the hld2 on my E-1. The hld2 feels solid; it feels like it was made for the E-1 with the same quality in mind. The hld4 feels like Olympus remembered at the last minute that they needed to make a grip for the E-3, so they threw the hld4 together in ten minutes with some plastic and some elmer's glue. Needless to say, I won't be getting rid of my E-1 and hld2...ever.

Is it just me?
