Macro and sports lens

I want to get a lens to use to photograph my daughters basketball game which are in gyms that are pretty well lit. I have tried the fantastic 70-200 2.8 but it is out of my price range, the 70-200 f4 is in my range. My question is the f4 fast enough in a well lit gym? Also I like to do macro can I use the 70-200 f4 to shoot insects from a distance? I currently use my Oly 40-15- with a 2x extension tube with pretty good results. Would the 70-200 f4 with an extender also be good for close up/macro work? The only lens I own for my 60D it the 17-55 2.8 which I love.
