Marketing - paying kickbacks, referrals and commissions?

Anyone putting others to work doing selling for your business and paying them based on sales?
Example - I know a vendor that deals with a regular turnover of well qualified potential clients for my services -
I'm thinking of offering them a referral kickback/commission for each customer they send to me, who buys. The amount could be a percentage, or a flat "finder's fee".
Anyone else tried this? Do tell! :->
