300 dpi for scanning SLIDES?
In reply to pdqgp, Oct 18, 2011

I don't think so, unless you're only planning to make contact prints. If you scan a slide at 300 dpi, and then enlarge to a 4x6 print, your final resolution is only about 75 dpi.

300 dpi is fine for scanning prints, because there's not really any more detail than that available. But for scanning 35mm slides, I'd say the minimum is about 2400 - 2700 dpi, and for best results scan at 4000 dpi.

If you want to make an 11x14 print, 2700 dpi will give you a print resolution of about 245 dpi.
