24 f1.2 VS 24-70 f2.8G - What a Dilema

I need pro help in making this decision today before I change my mind and spend the $$ elsewhere that I recieved from sale of my D7000.

I have a D700 and need a lens that is great for indoor event photography and can be used for occasional vacation pics as well. I have narrowed down to 24 f1.4 prime and 24-70 f2.8G.

I love the size and f1.2 of the prime lens but sometimes you dont have the luxury to move into right place and get a great shot. On the other hand I love the 24-70 zoom although slight be slower f2.8, but have heard some horror stories of this lens having issues and Nikon not been able to fix fast enough or to full satisfaction.

I cannot afford both and once I buy this I will be all set for long time. Need your help in making the right decision.
