SLT or SLR?

I am planning to buy my first interchangeable lens camera, should i go for an SLT or a conventional SLR, here is what i am looking for in a camera.
Good performance in low light.
Cost of lens.
Great image quality.
I have narrowed down on two cameras, Canon 550D/T2i and Sony A35 SLT
The A35 has inbuilt IS which means i can buy lens without IS, its also faster than the T2i, how much will this matter.
I have read that the translucent mirror in the SLT tends to wear out after long use, is this true?
No optical viewfinder in the A35.
Is the SLT technology here to stay?
Which camera should I go for, please advice.
