18-200mm focus problem (focus scale)

Hi

I was wondering if this is normal behavior.

An object that is clearly 5+ meters away or even 10+ meters away, but for some reason at the 18mm setting, the focus scale does not go beyond 1 meter and never past the 3 meters mark in auto focus mode. I took many shots and it's always the same behaviour.

Is this normal?
