Help With Night Shooting
Oct 6, 2011

Hi everyone. Got my NEX 5N last week as my first step up to more serious photography from P&S and iPhone. Have myself booked onto a photography course but doesn't start until January so am getting to grips with manual settings in the meantime. I've always been a massive fan of night sky photos and was one of the first things I wanted to try out. Below are my first attempts - and please, before anyone crucifies me, I know they are rubbish. I'd like to ask for a few pointers, if that's OK.

  • Moon is overexposed but decreasing shutter speed leaves the rest of the photo underexposed. Do I need to be using a filter.....?

  • Trees are blurry - guessing I just need to wait for a still night(?)

  • Please also make any other comments - I'm pretty thick skinned and open to any constructive criticism.

Cheers,

Ben
