OTHER THAN macro shots, is the F/3.5 SEL30M35 enough improvement over the kit zoom?

Just wondering if its worth buying the SEL30M35, if you just want it as a 30mm prime lens and not planning on macro shots much?

Its 60mm diameter and 56mm length vs the kit zoom at 60mm diameter and 60mm length.

So, saving 4mm on length certainly won't make it a buy.

Right!

At F/3.5, its marginally brighter than the 18-55 kit zoom at 30mm
(seems it would be half a stop at most?)

So, if its not really brighter, I guess it might have less distortion...?

Less C.A. I would hope.

I know some people here have already taken really nice shots with it... I guess they be the only ones who have an idea...

Leaving the macro capability out of the equation, would you guys recommend this lens as a 30mm prime?

Too bad, Sony should have used that focal length (30mm) for a fast normal lens and used 60mm for a macro lens. Since neither will happen in the near future, I'm using legacy lens and Sony is not selling me any new lens.

I haven't decided yet about the new 50mm lens.
