"Standard" lens on a 1.6x body
Oct 3, 2011

I have recently bought a 600d which I love and an 18-135 lens. It is brilliant and clearly shows just how much I have to learn about photography but if it were all easy it would be boring. Anyway, I want a lens for indoor shots, nothing studio based, just candid shots of children opening presents at Christmas (for example). I don't want to have to use the flash unless I have to.

I know that the 1.6 x adjustment means that a 50mm is actually an 80mm equivalent but the 50mm f1.4 seems attractive, however should I go for the 35mm f2 or the 28mm f1.8? Not as fast so possibly needing the flash more often but both closer to the true 50mm angle.

Any thoughts? Just to avoid some suggestions, I'm not really looking to spend over £400 so no point going for the super top end stuff. Thanks for your comments
