The shutter lag of D300s (WARNING! Long and technical)

Which has always bothered me. When you use live view the camera always drops the mirror and pulls it back up before the exposure even if you are in manual exposure/focus. The only reason to drop the mirror would be to measure the exposure but its set to manual. It could be that the software always enters the exposure calc subroutine even if the camera is set to manual which could explain part of the shutter delay. This is on a D300 not sure on a D300s but I think it does the same thing in live view.
