17-40mm Consideration.

I'm looking for a wide angel lens and also as a replacement for my 18-55mm kitlens. and I came across with 17-40mm was wondering how good it would be mounted on a crop sensor like 550D. I know its not too wide and not too bright compare to tokina 11-16mm.

Any thoughts??
