D7000 + back button focus - when does the camera meter for exposure
Sep 25, 2011

Hi All,

I'm new to (posting to) the forums, though I have lurked on and off, so please be gentle.
My plea of mitigation out of the way...

I have a D7000 set up to use back button focus, i.e. I have the "AE/L AF/L" button set to "AF-ON".

With this set up, when the does camera meter for exposure?

The alternatives I can think of are:
1) when the Shutter Release is depressed
2) when the Sutter Release is half depressed
3) when the AE/L AF/L button is depressed
3) when the AE/L AF/L button is released
5) or at some other time?

Until now most of the time I use manual so it has not been an issue, but I want to start using Aperture/Shutter Priority a bit so now it is sort of important to know when the metering will take place.

Anyone know?

Thanks
Jason
