Of course a 10mp sensor isn't the optimal choice for a 42" print. That's a job for medium format. Just keep in mind that difference in sensor-size between APS-C and m43 is roughly as big as the difference between m43 and 1". And the 12mp m43 sensor is from 2008, while the 10mp 1" sensor is, well, from 2011.

Most entry levels DSLR set to Auto. I have talk with three guys wit cameras (Nikon D90, Sony A350 and Nikon D5100) and all three never changed settings since purchased the cameras. Two claimed having the best cameras and the Sony guy complained about sharpness of his Sony images at the full zoom settings. That is the truth. My friend and his wife are sharing D7000 - the same story. They are P&S people and only one of these four printed several 8x10 and huge 42" print in two years - his ruffle ticket won the Canon Printing service. Nothing wrong with it. However, I think new Nikons would suffer when reviewed. May be in few sensors generations the story would be different.
