Am I investing in a soon to be defunct system?

I'm wondering if I made a mistake partially investing in the alpha line. I'd like to upgrade my body to an A55 or A65 but nearly all the hubub on sonyalpharumours.com is about the Nex system. It appears (to me, an amatuer) that Sony's mian focus is developing the Nex over the Alpha. Does anyone think the A line is doomed in the near future? The fact I have to drive a minimum of a 1/2 hr to find a limited amount of Sony products annoy's me as well - wondering if I should have spent more and gone to Canon or Nikon.
