Your point regarding resale is an insightful one.

I would list 3 others that would be relevant to a decision about whether to buy Chinese-made goods:

1. Quality - in a lot of cases, China has captured market share through lower price, and in some such cases quality suffers. I think this thread has pretty much settled the issue that this does not apply in the case of the lens in question.

2. You prefer to buy goods from a particular national origin because you want to vote with your wallet.

3. Ethical reasons. I don't think this has been raised yet, but I have seen a number of stories in the news about industrial espionage and patent infringement in China. I know these things go on elsewhere, but China seems to be a fairly egregious offender. Again, n/a in the specific case of this lens but may be a broad criteria for some buyers.
